I recently finished a 3-session writing workshop with a group of 6th graders in which they brainstormed, wrote and published books centered around gratitude. It was the first class of this sort I’ve taught, and it was a great experience.
Needless to say, their 6th grade minds (the perfect blend of childish and mature) came up with a wide range of people and things for which they were grateful, everything from “family” and “friends” to “High School Musical” and “poop.”
Each students’ book ended up a perfect snapshot into the character and personality of the individual. I hope they and their families hold onto the books so they can look back in 5 and 10 and 20 years and marvel at the people they were.
